Université Côte d’Azur is set to play a significant and active role in the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), hosted in Nice, France, during June 2025. Underscoring its profound commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation in ocean preservation, the university will spearhead a comprehensive series of side events. These will encompass a diverse range of activities, including insightful conferences, engaging debates, hands-on workshops, and inspiring artistic performances, all designed to contribute meaningfully to the conference’s objectives.
Throughout June, a dynamic lineup of university-led initiatives will unfold. Highlights include an international hackathon, “Participatory Science for the Ocean,” inviting students and researchers globally to collaborate on innovative solutions.
Another key event will be a “ONE HEALTH” forum, fostering Franco-Monegasque-Italian cooperation to advance the blue economy. Furthermore, a dedicated conference at the historic Grand Château de Valrose will address critical aspects of scientific and political cooperation essential for effective ocean conservation.
The university’s engagement will also feature the launch of a new International Network of Marine Universities, a pivotal step to bolster global scientific collaboration and enhance joint training programs dedicated to ocean preservation. To culminate its contributions and reflect on the conference’s achievements, a special closing event will be held in early July at the Grand Théâtre de Valrose to discuss outcomes and chart future actions. Many of these university-driven activities have earned the “UNOC Green Zone” distinction, signifying their strong alignment with UNOC3’s core sustainability goals and innovative approaches to ocean science.
