Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hisayuki Fujii, met with Ms. Isabelle Berro Amadei, Interim Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Monaco, during Monaco’s National Day at Expo Osaka, Kansai. Minister Fujii welcomed the Monaco delegation, including Prince Albert II, and highlighted the upcoming 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Monaco in 2026.
He expressed his hope to further deepen the friendly bilateral relationship, building on the longstanding ties between the Japanese Imperial Family and Monaco’s Royal Household.
Minister Berro Amadei congratulated Japan on the success of the Expo and emphasized that the high-level visit, with Prince Albert II and other dignitaries, would contribute to strengthening Japan-Monaco relations. Both sides reaffirmed that Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security are inseparable and agreed to work closely together on pressing international issues, including the situations in Ukraine, East Asia (notably North Korea), and the Middle East.
In addition to diplomatic and security discussions, the meeting underscored the growing economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Recent high-level visits and joint initiatives, such as Monaco’s active participation at Expo Osaka and ongoing cooperation in tourism and sustainable development, reflect a shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting mutual understanding.
