The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is hosting the first comprehensive survey exhibition in Spain dedicated to renowned American artist Barbara Kruger, on view from June 24 to November 9, 2025. Kruger is internationally recognized for her powerful works that combine striking images from mass media with bold, provocative texts, challenging viewers to reflect on issues of identity, power, consumerism, and social dynamics.
This exhibition highlights Kruger’s signature approach of transforming architectural spaces into immersive, text-driven environments. Visitors will encounter large-scale installations where language envelops entire rooms through vinyl, soundscapes, and multichannel video works. Many pieces revisit and reinterpret Kruger’s earlier creations, now reimagined with digital technology, LED displays, and innovative sound elements.
Organized in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition invites audiences to engage deeply with Kruger’s exploration of language, media, and meaning in the digital age. The show is curated by Lekha Hileman Waitoller and spans several galleries within the museum, offering a unique opportunity to experience Kruger’s thought-provoking vision in a dynamic, contemporary context.
In addition to the main installations, the exhibition includes a robust public program featuring talks, guided tours, and educational workshops designed to foster dialogue around the themes central to Kruger’s work. These activities aim to engage a wide audience, from students to art professionals, encouraging critical reflection on the influence of media and language in shaping contemporary culture.
