The European Parliament hosted an international expert conference titled “Nanoplastics: Hidden Connections and Emerging Risks,” organized by MEP Ondřej Knotek and the ALLATRA Global Research Center. Scientists from Europe, Israel, and the US presented alarming data on micro- and nanoplastics infiltrating air, water, food chains, and human bodies.

Experts highlighted unprecedented Mediterranean Sea contamination—four times higher than the Pacific Garbage Patch—revealing nanoplastics as a planetary-scale physical-chemical factor, not just local waste. Panels addressed health impacts, ecosystem disruption, and urgent needs for EU regulatory frameworks and public awareness campaigns.

Key speakers including Prof. Alessandro Ragusa, John Ahn, and Anna Kotlyar emphasized continuous human exposure through ingestion, inhalation, and skin contact. The conference called for immediate policy integration across environmental and public health domains to address this invisible pollution crisis.

MEP Knotek stressed the non-partisan, moral imperative: “Nanoplastics transcend politics, religion—it’s about protecting life before costs become irreversible.” The event marked first steps toward collaborative legislative and research solutions.
