The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, addressed the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva, emphasizing the country’s resolute dedication to building a healthier, safer, and more resilient world. Plenković highlighted that investing in health is a strategic investment in shared security, stability, and progress, considering robust health systems a fundamental pillar.

During his speech, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) role in global health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and advocated for the organization’s institutional strengthening. Croatia actively supports the WHO pandemic agreement, reflecting its commitment to better preparedness, prevention, and response to future health challenges.

Plenković also mentioned that Croatia currently ranks 8th globally in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and has made steady progress in health-related objectives. The country played a proactive role in strengthening preparedness for health emergencies, which led to the adoption of a resolution on health emergencies resulting from natural disasters at the previous year’s assembly.

The Croatian Prime Minister concluded by reiterating that sustainable funding for the WHO is a strategic imperative and a functional necessity for the organization to effectively lead and coordinate global health efforts. Croatia is committed to working with partners to address health threats, protect the vulnerable, and uphold universal access to equitable healthcare.
