Beiersdorf Partners with Vincere Biosciences for Skincare Innovation

Beiersdorf AG, the German company behind brands like NIVEA and Eucerin, has announced a strategic partnership with US-based Vincere Biosciences. The collaboration aims to develop innovative skincare solutions by translating scientific discoveries about cell health and rejuvenation into new cosmetic products.

The main focus of the partnership lies in mitophagy – the cellular process of degrading damaged mitochondria, essential for cell health and playing a crucial role in skin aging processes. Beiersdorf will contribute its extensive research experience on coenzyme Q10, an endogenous molecule and antioxidant vital for mitochondrial health. In turn, Vincere Biosciences specializes in developing molecules that inhibit USP30, an enzyme that blocks the removal of damaged mitochondria, thereby promoting mitophagy.

Dr. Gitta Neufang, Chief R&D Officer at Beiersdorf, emphasized that this collaboration is a strategic move aligned with the company’s long-term vision, underscoring that meaningful cosmetic advancements stem from a deep understanding of skin biology.

From Vincere Biosciences’ perspective, CEO Dr. Spring Behrouz expressed excitement about partnering with Beiersdorf, a leader in active ingredient cosmetics. She also noted the collaboration showcases the wider applicability of Vincere’s USP30 inhibitor pipeline for various age-related disorders, extending beyond its primary research into Parkinson’s disease.

This union of expertise is expected to uncover new regulatory mechanisms in skin biology, considered key to advancing cosmetic solutions. The partnership aims to translate these scientific insights into tangible benefits for consumers, driving scientific innovation with real-world impact by addressing skin health at a cellular level.
